Habitat for Humanity International awarded up to $5 million in AmeriCorps funding for service in communities nationwide
Funding will support hundreds of AmeriCorps members to expand service in communities facing poverty, and rural and tribal communities
ATLANTA (July 9, 2026) — Habitat for Humanity International announced today that it received a grant of up to $5 million from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The grant will expand Habitat’s capacity to scale homebuilding, repair and neighborhood revitalization efforts in communities where the need is greatest across the U.S.
AmeriCorps State and National, a federal-state partnership, develops and implements service programs. These grants allow organizations to recruit, train and supervise AmeriCorps members who are providing services to support housing, education, disaster services, health, environmental stewardship, economic opportunity and service to veterans and military families.

AmeriCorps members drive Habitat’s mission, strengthening day-to-day operations and program delivery in communities across the country.”
With this funding, Habitat will:
- Place AmeriCorps members to engage local volunteers and deepen community partnerships.
- Expand capacity to scale homebuilding, repair and neighborhood revitalization efforts.
- Dedicate AmeriCorps members to strengthen day-to-day operations and program delivery.
- Increase ability to reach families in communities with the greatest housing needs.
- Gain access to evidence-informed approaches that improve impact and outcomes.
Since partnering in 1994, over 12,000 AmeriCorps members have enrolled with Habitat, engaging over 4.6 million volunteers at build sites across the U.S., and serving over 138,000 individuals through a total of more than 19 million hours of service.

AmeriCorps State and National engages more than 50,000 Americans in intensive service each year. Full-time AmeriCorps members in the AmeriCorps State and National program receive a modest living allowance, health care and childcare. At the successful completion of each service term, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.
